I took a collection of 11 songs that I love (no rap music), songs that I think fans of any type of music would love, and I added a verse to each. I didn’t chop the songs up and flip the samples for brownie points. I didn’t try to make something new out of these songs. I just tried to leave the original songs alone as much as I could, and added one verse over each song to make it seem as if I was invited into the studio with the band to collaborate. All of these collaborations are, of course, unauthorized, but I tried to make each verse as relevant to the songs’ original lyrics as I possibly could.

Last night brought sad news for the underground hip hop community; it's been confirmed that Nujabes(née Jun Seba) died last month in a car accident in Tokyo. The Japanese hip hop DJ and producer was a mere 36 years old, and passed the same day the 7.3 earthquake hit the coast of Japan on February 26th. News of his death was not made public until yesterday when his label Hydeout Productions issued a statement online. Nujabes' family held a private burial in Japan.

Nujabes was known around the world for his jazz-infused, sophisticated take on hip hop beats, and a melancholy, nostalgic undertone to his music that has made for some of the most beautiful tracks to emerge from the underground. In addition to making music and founding a record label, he also owned influential record stores in Tokyo (Guiness Records, T Records) and worked on the soundtrack ofSamurai Champloo, a famous anime about samurai and hip hop culture.

Mc Guru in a coma

Gang Starr MC Guru suffered a cardiac episode over the weekend and is currently in a coma, according to multiple reports. Details were unavailable at press time about the rapper's condition and when the incident occurred.

On a lighter note DJ Wonder put together a live mix on The Morning After with Angela Yee, a compilation of his favorites from Guru to commemorate his career. The mix brings some added awareness to the legendary Guru, especially to young audiences worldwide who were not as prominently exposed to the rapper. It has been amazing monitoring the support that Guru is receiving in light of his coma, caused by cardiac arrest. This project especially reaches out to millions of people and on top of that was mixed LIVE earlier today. That point just warrants mentioning once again.
